Shooting more…
I have recently began shooting much more as I have started to carry my camera with me pretty much everywhere I go. I did so because I began to realize that I wished I had my camera at a time that I didn't. Now that spring/summer is in full swing, there are plenty of things that can be photographed. Flowers, landscape, water sports, parades, people. I mention people since more of them are out and about as opposed to the colder months were most don't like to come out. I also recently read that to get better at photography I really should be out there shooting as much as possible.
Shooting more is great, but I would like to mention that you should also be shooting actively and not passively. Really think about it before pressing the shutter release. I guess you could go around taking photos and maybe get a handful of pretty good images. But if you put a little more thought into it, that is what separates the pros from the hobbyist or whatever you want to call them. Pros take the time to setup the image to get the "story" that they are trying to tell. But in order to get to that point, you do need to learn the fundamentals and that only comes with practice. So step 1, go out and shoot more. The rest will come naturally.

Perfect practice makes perfect
That has always stuck with me for most of my adult life. I first heard it when I was in high school. I think that the reason I like it is that it shows that just going through the motions isn't going to be good enough. You have to really put hard work into practice and that is really the only way to go. Plus, you really need to have a desire to practice your craft. It shouldn't be a chore or that will be a clear indication that you are not putting everything you have into your craft.
I have recently started taking advantage of professional photography instruction by some of the top instructors in the world. I have read books and learned by doing before, but I have to admit that attending these courses has really given me techniques that I may not have learned any other way. Plus, having other photographers learning with you and seeing how they are interpreting the information has also helped me in ways that I just wouldn't have picked up any other way. In one three day course I recently took, we also had access to many top of the line equipment and lighting that as a single photographer wouldn't have the resources to use and practice with.
Lately, I have noticed that the quality of my images have really improved or I really should say that I have learned how to view images professionally. I mean, what is quality in terms of photography? Anyway, I am more excited about photography than before and as with any other craft, perfect practice makes perfect. Thanks Coach Ferguson.
Here are some images for your pleasure.

Hummingbird Moth
I was finishing up with some yard work when I heard a buzzing noise near me. I looked around and this is what I saw. At first I thought is was a hummingbird but I also thought it was a little odd to see a hummingbird this late in the day.
As I went to grab my camera and started taking a few shots, it became apparent that this wasn’t a hummingbird. A little research online helped me identify it as a hummingbird moth. This is the first time I have seen one and it was interesting to see it move like a hummingbird. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos.

New Search Feature
I added a new search feature to the site. Go HERE to test it out.
If you hover over the name of the site, then you will get a nice layout of all of the other sites that you can search from as well. I also added this site as an option to search from which works very well. Overall, I am pretty happy with it, but I am looking to get it integrated into a page so that it falls into the theme of the site. I think I may have to just hack up the template itself to do that though.
I hope you like it. If not, or if you have any suggestions, please send me an email which is located in the About Me link from the top menu.
